I love SXSW (South By South West) music festival and Austin, Texas! I visited there in 2008 and went for the whole event; Film, Interactive and Music! You can read and view photos of that trip in a blog that I wrote for Barflies.net titled Tink’s 2008 Year End Music Redux!

This years trip was anticipated by the starting Gundo Records and taking EFFU promo CDs with me. Albeit I hobbled around Austin, TX with an injured ankle . . .

I did this trip a bit differently then 2008. I only came for the Music portion of the event and I stayed outside of Austin at my friends Kelly and Chris’s house which is on a farm with cows, donkeys, 2 cute pups and one very rogue GOOSE!

I did my best to get to as many panels and to see as many bands as I could. The panels that I attended were Archiving and Accessing Music Media – The Great Migration. This was primarily about how record labels, music libraries etc are archiving music on a cloud and CDs. Since I’m a full-time Digital Archivist, I found this interesting.

Next was Cash for Songs – Getting Music in Commercials. I went to this because I think this is the future of music. Getting licensing deals. Which led me to the next panel . .

Insider Tips for Maximizing Licensing Income and Opportunities. The panel set up a mock licensing deal. Many people involved . . . a lot of back and forth. . . a lot of renegotiation and enrolling the client(s) to the project . . . a lot of compromising and flexibility. You have to keep in mind the artist, the manager, songwriters, labels, etc.

Vinyl Records 3.0 – Challenges and Rewards. Since I was going to be releasing EFFU’s 7″ clear vinyl, I thought it was  important . . .

I’m sure I went to more panels but these were the ones I took notes on!

Now for the fun stuff, THE MUSIC!

Duran Duran @ Stubbs – Highlight on my trip and life. I heart DD!

Wanda Jackson over at a venue off of Congress. LOVE HER!

But the sad part of this is that I know I saw more bands but I can’t find my notes and I can’t remember their names! BOO! And I apparently bought a crappy camera before sxsw. Never buy a crappy camera before going on a trip or at least try it out first before you leave . . .

Had the best BBQ @ Black’s in Lockhart, TX. Went to San Antonio, TX and saw The ALAMO! Saw a white Donkey, no, not me silly . . . a real white donkey that goes heehaw. . . heehaw . . . Went to a bar that had Gnomes everywhere . . . Lilacs were in bloom!

Yep! I love sxsw and Austin, TX

2011 marks the beginning of Gundo Records. It’s been a bit rocky here and there and we have learned so much in a very short amount of time. So we are playing catch up with our readers!

Early in 2011, EFFU recorded 2 songs for their 7″ vinyl release. Tiki Bar and Crashing Down. Yes, actual vinyl! But before making the vinyl . . .

We quickly made promo CDs to distribute at sxsw 2011 in March in Austin, TX! Look for  special blog and photos highlighting sxsw . . . .

Took some time and finally finished the 7″ clear vinyl pressing with picture sleeve.

You can listen to clips of the songs and it’s available for purchase here!

EFFU is currently working on new songs and expect a CD/Digital Downloads in early 2012.

Keep checking back for new updates.

Keep checking back for all news and updates regarding new releases from EFFU and upcoming events.

We will not disappoint!
